Zakynthos’s most photographed landscape
Navagio Beach is an iconic landscape of Zakynthos and one of the most recognisable images of the Greek summer worldwide. This secluded cove on the western coast, with its dazzling turquoise waters, white pebbled shore and sheer limestone cliffs that embrace it, offers a scene of almost unreal beauty.
At the centre of the beach stands the rusting wreck of the ship Panagiotis, which ran aground there in 1980, lending a striking dimension to the natural landscape.
Navagio can be reached only by boat, mainly from Agios Nikolaos, Porto Vromi and Zakynthos Town, while the panoramic view from the clifftop platform remains one of the island’s most impressive viewpoints. The story of the ship, associated with smuggling, pursuit and abandonment, adds an element of mystery that heightens the cove’s allure.
Unfortunately, at present Navagio Beach remains closed for safety reasons and maintenance works, and disembarkation is not permitted. Before planning your visit, it is advisable to check the current situation.
Even without disembarking, however, Navagio remains a top highlight for boat excursions and photography.
