Natural beauty and history
Poros offers a variety of easily accessible beaches, with deep blue or emerald waters—depending on the side of the island—and lush vegetation that often reaches right down to the shore.
Vagonia Beach on the northern side, lies in a beautiful bay surrounded by pine forest. With views toward Attica and crystal-clear waters, this beach hides a unique secret: beneath the surface lie the remains of an ancient settlement, turning every swim into a small exploration.
All the other beaches stretch along the southern and western coasts and are well serviced. Askeli Beach, just 2 km from the port and overlooking the Myrtoan Sea, is one of the island’s most popular spots. With a sandy seabed and clear waters, it offers plenty of options for coffee, dining, and water sports. Kanali Beach, very close to the town centre, stands out for its easy walking access and views of the narrow strait separating Poros from the Peloponnese.
A little further along, you’ll find Megalo Neorio, one of the island’s most beautiful beaches and a favourite of poet Giorgos Seferis and writer Henry Miller. Nearby is Mikro Neorio, a smaller, more sheltered cove with clear waters and rich greenery, while between the two lies Kalypso, a small serviced beach with a relaxed atmosphere.
The Russian Naval Station Beach combines natural beauty with history. In the early 19th century, it served as a base for the Russian fleet, and today the ruins of a large stone building still stand by the sea. Limanaki tis Agapis (Love Bay) is a charming, picturesque cove surrounded by pine trees that almost touch the water. Close by is Monastiri Beach, next to the historic Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, dating back to the 18th century and known for its deep, crystal-clear waters.
