The "House of Nymfaio" and the art of silver
At the heart of Nymfaio lies the Museum of Silversmithing, Folklore and History, which captures the rich cultural heritage of the region. It is housed in a renovated mansion known as "The House of Nymfaio" and presents the centuries-old tradition of local silversmithing, which has defined the economy and social identity of the village since the 18th century.
The showcases stand out with the rare collection of silversmithing tools: old hammers, molds, dies and specialised instruments used by the craftsmen of Nymfaio. Among them are exhibited completed works of gold: men's and women's jewellery, ecclesiastical utensils, wedding crowns, buckles, belts, cigarette cases and ornate household items, which reveal the high aesthetics and craftsmanship of traditional art.
The exhibition presents the course of the village through time, its people and its special cultural character. Also, of great interest are the authentic women's costumes of the area, living evidence of the local folklore identity.
In a separate section of the museum are exhibited valuable relics, photographs and documents related to the action of the Greek organisation Neveska during the Macedonian Struggle, as well as original letters of important figures of the Struggle, such as Pavlos Melas and Captain Kaoudis.
The Museum of Silversmithing, Folklore and History of Nymfaio has a strong cultural activity, holding educational activities, experiential workshops and presentations on the art of silversmithing.
