Flora and fauna brought to life in impressive dioramas
In Kalabaka, at the foot of the imposing Meteora rock formation, awaits the award-winning Natural History Museum of Meteora & Mushroom Museum, which offers an educational, experiential journey to the natural wealth of Greece through impressive exhibits and interactive experiences.
The exhibition space covering 1,100 sq.m. realistically displays over 350 species of animals (mammals and birds), as well as about 250 species of mushrooms, all set up in dioramas representing their natural environment. The exhibits stand out for their aesthetic and scientific accuracy, and are organised in thematic units adapted to visitors of all ages.
The mushroom section —the first of its kind in Greece— is particularly interesting, highlighting the vital role fungi play in the ecosystem, through natural and artistic exhibits of unique aesthetic value.
After the tour, visitors can purchase excellent mushroom-based products, such as pasta, delicious soups, truffle pastes, mushrooms in oil, etc. All the products offered are produced by the museum, aiming to highlight the importance of mushrooms for nutrition, as well as their extensive advantages.
The Museum implements educational programmes, hosts interactive exhibitions and organises the ‘Nights at the Museum’ event, a special experience for all ages. It also offers visitor the opportunity to participate in truffle hunting on horseback, as well as the Mushroom Festival, held once a year in Kalabaka.
Discover a jewel of a museum, combining knowledge with the magic of nature, at one of the most impressive locations in Greece.
