The Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa will offer you an excellent opportunity to discover the rich and multifaceted past of Thesprotia, from the Middle Palaeolithic period to the late Roman, Byzantine and post-Byzantine periods. Built at the northern entrance to the town, the museum has been operating since the end of 2009. 
At the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa you have the opportunity to walk through centuries of history and to connect with the cultural identity of the wider area. The permanent exhibition, entitled “Thesprotians’ Land”, houses more than 1,600 exhibits, organised into five thematic sections: Archaeological–Historical Overview, Settlements of the Historic Periods, Public Life, Private Life and Funerary customs
Within the museum’s spaces, a variety of objects are displayed which highlight the changes through time and the development of Thesprotia: clay vessels, jewellery, tools, glass and metal objects, as well as finds associated with daily life, trade, worship and funerary practices.
The museum also features a multi-purpose hall, a cinema hall, a small amphitheatre and a space for temporary exhibitions and educational programmes, elements that make it pioneering and multifunctional. Its modern facilities, its educational opportunities and its temporary exhibitions enhance the experience, offering knowledge, emotion and inspiration.

The Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa is located 1 kilometre from the city centre, on 28th October Coastal Road, opposite the former TEI of Epirus facilities and the Municipal Stadium of Igoumenitsa, with a side entrance at the junction of King Pyrrhus and Dionysios Solomos streets. It can be reached by car, using the free municipal parking area or other parking facilities nearby, or on foot—approximately 15 minutes from the city centre and 30 minutes from the Central Passenger Terminal of the New Port of Igoumenitsa.
