Hiking on Alonnisos

Trails worth discovering

Alonnisos boasts an extensive network of over 35 trails that connect coastal areas, olive groves, farmhouses, old chapels, and forests of pine trees and mastic shrubs. Most are well marked, and there are also trails of mild difficulty, suitable for families. If you love hiking, follow the trails and get to know the authentic side of the island, away from the more touristy spots.
One of the most beautiful routes is the one connecting Patitiri with Old Alonnisos and Mega Nero, offering a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea. Another equally delightful route starts from Old Alonnisos and reaches the peak of Kalovoulo. It is shorter, lasting about an hour, but truly impressive, passing through a pine forest with a panoramic view of the Marine Park. The Patitiri – Votsi – Mega Nero route is milder and coastal, ideal for an afternoon walk.
The Great Traverse of Alonnisos is a trail for more experienced walkers. Approximately 25 km long, it connects the main points of the island from Patitiri to Megali Ammos.
The hiking routes that pass through areas of the National Marine Park of Alonnisos - Northern Sporades are an opportunity to observe rare species of flora and fauna, from orchids and wild flowers to the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus.
Follow the island's marked trails and experience a unique harmony with the environment, observing all safety measures and with the accompaniment of an experienced, certified guide where necessary. The scent of pine, the sound of the waves, and alternating landscapes create a sense of tranquility. Some smooth and others more demanding, the trails on Alonnisos offer moments of direct contact with nature and the most authentic side of the island.
