Diving on Fourni Islands

Discover the "capital" of shipwrecks in the Aegean

The island complex of Fourni includes over 20 islands, with the largest being Fourni, Thymena and Agios Minas. It also hides a real underwater treasure. Their unique geographical position on the main trade routes of the Aegean has led to the concentration of dozens of shipwrecks.
Officially, the systematic research of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities has recorded 58 shipwrecks, although estimates raise the number to around 80. The findings date from the Archaic Period (8th century BC) to the 19th century, revealing a vast history of maritime trade and one of the largest underwater "archives" of navigation in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Many of these historical remains are found at shallow depths, even at 7 metres, while others are deeper and offer unique exploration opportunities. Underwater routes on Fourni reveal impressive clusters of amphorae (cargoes of wine, oil and other products) that testify to trade relations with the Black Sea, Asia Minor and the rest of the Mediterranean. The diversity of the cargoes indicates the supra-regional role of Fourni as a maritime hub.
In this ideal diving area, licensed professionals will guide you safely to selected spots. Book your own underwater tour and dive into the rich seabed of the Aegean Sea.
