Routes through lush green landscapes
Built amphitheatrically on the shores of the Ionian Sea, Parga has a lesser-known yet highly fascinating side: its hiking trails. These are routes of exceptional natural beauty, which wind through olive groves, hills and coastal scenery, offering panoramic views and a meaningful connection with nature. The passages around the town and the neighbouring villages combine images of the countryside with points of historical interest.
Particularly noteworthy is the Anthousa Waterfall, an ideal spot for coolness during the summer months. It is surrounded by dense trees and lies within a short walking distance of the centre of Anthousa, a village just 3 km from Parga. The trail is easily accessible and the natural coolness of the water offers a sense of rejuvenation. About 300 m from the waterfall you will come across old watermills, one of which has been converted into a museum open to visitors, highlighting the local agricultural heritage and the traditional milling process.
You can also reach the waterfall and the watermills via the hiking trail from Valtos Beach – the distance is about 2 km. The route offers natural shade from the trees; however, the uphill section is relatively steep. It is the same trail that continues towards Ali Pasha Castle above Anthousa, offering impressive views of the Ionian Sea and the mainland coastline.
Equally interesting are the routes to Agia Eleni and Lichnos Beach, as well as the trails linking Valtos with Sarakiniko, passing by smaller beaches and olive groves. Suitable equipment is recommended and, on more demanding routes, the company of an experienced, certified guide. Observing all safety measures ensures an enjoyable experience.
Immerse yourself in the nature of Parga and discover new sights, aromas and sounds at every step.
