Walking routes between mountain, river and forest
Preveza is surrounded by places ideal for walks and meaningful contact with nature.
In its northern part rises the legendary Zalongo mountain, 700 metres high, forever linked with the history of the Souliot women and their heroic sacrifice in 1803. Along carefully laid-out paths, you will reach the monumental sculpture in their honour, at a spot distinguished both by its historical importance and by its superb panoramic views over the Ionian Sea and the landscape of Epirus.
A little further west, along the coastline, stretches the Monolithi aesthetic forest, a wonderful natural lung that offers walking routes suitable for families as well. While hiking, it is important to observe the necessary safety measures, and for the more demanding routes the accompaniment of a certified guide is recommended.
For longer distances and more demanding routes, you can follow trails along the Louros River and continue towards one of Epirus’s most distinctive natural beauties: Lake Zirou. The paths follow the calm rhythm of the water, revealing the lakeside forest of Agios Varnavas, a lush green environment rich in flora. The lake, with its clear waters and the simplicity of the landscape, offers a unique experience of walking, photography and contact with nature. Here, green meets blue in a place seemingly made for exploration and relaxation.
