Two trails in an idyllic setting
Between the villages of Pyrgos and Androniani lies a lush green paradise. The area of Santa’s Mill, at the foothills of the Kotylea Mountains, surrounded by plane trees and flowing waters, reveals a different side of the Kymi region.
You can begin your hike from Pyrgos and end in Androniani—or the other way around—while also enjoying a stroll through their narrow alleys. Two paths connect the villages: the old, narrow path once used by locals, and a newer, stone-paved one. The hike takes about an hour, although you will most likely want to linger much longer.
Santa’s watermill itself has been out of operation since 1965 and is now surrendered to nature, much like the mill in Pyrgos. Even so, the surrounding area is truly captivating: the two beautiful 19th-century stone bridges you will encounter along the route are perfect for photos, as are the small waterfalls that form at various points.
Smaller paths lead you right alongside the river, where birds sing among the foliage and the sound of running water clears the mind. In summer, the flow is reduced, but small natural pools remain, where many visitors enjoy a refreshing dip. Take a swim, enjoy a picnic while respecting the environment, and be sure to follow all safety measures.
