Discovering the Mountain of the Centaurs

Pelion, majestically positioned between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea, captivates visitors with its paradise-like nature. Its eastern side is wild and rugged, while the side facing the Pagasetic Gulf is dotted with sheltered beaches. The best way to discover its hidden treasures is by hiking through an extensive network of trails.


Suggested Routes


1. Tsagarada – Damouchari (3 km / 1 hour): Embark on an effortless, downhill trail that starts at Agias Paraskevis square, graced by a centuries-old plane tree. The winding cobblestone path meanders through a lush forest, unveiling breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea, ending at the renowned Damouchari beach.


2. Kala Nera – Milies (11 km / 3 hours): A moderately challenging route that largely follows the railway line. The vegetation, streams, and wildflowers create an unforgettable landscape, leading to historic Milies, from where you can return on the legendary Moutzouris train.


3. Zagora – Chorefto (3 km / 1.5 hours): A very easy route, ideal for families. From the largest village in Pelion, Zagora, descend amidst orchards towards the beach of Chorefto, the historic port of the Zagorian ships.


4. Ano Lechonia – Agios Georgios Nilias (4 km / 2 hours): A moderately challenging ascent through olive groves and ravines. The route ends at Agios Georgios, one of the most picturesque villages of the mountain, offering breathtaking views of the Pagasetic Gulf.


5. Veneto – Flamouri Monastery – Ano Kerasia (12.9 km / 5 hours): A demanding yet breathtaking route through Northern Pelion. It winds through forests of towering beeches and lush vegetation, leading to the historic Flamouri Monastery, which stands majestically in a forest clearing.
