Kifisia (Cephisia), one of the deme (administrative subdivisions) of ancient Athens, served as a summer retreat for wealthy Athenians and philosophers in Roman times, thanks to its cool climate and lush greenery. Today, neoclassical villas, stately homes with large gardens, and impressive buildings bear witness to its period of prosperity in the 19th century, when the Athenian bourgeoisie built their holiday homes here. Many of these structures still stand, imbuing Kifisia with its timeless character.
The heart of Kifisia beats at Platanou Square and its commercial centre, where elegant shops, cafés, and restaurants create a vibrant atmosphere with a European flair. Parks, tree-lined avenues, and quiet streets offer moments of relaxation and coolness, even on the warmest days.
