Veikou Park Grove

A green recreational paradise

At the foot of Galatsi, just a few kilometers from the centre of Athens, lies Veikou Park Grove, one of the most beloved green lungs of the capital. Covering an area of more than 25,6 hectares, it is a multifaceted recreation, sports and culture park, where the natural landscape coexists harmoniously with modern infrastructure.
Its name comes from Epaminondas Veikos, a benefactor of the area, who gave the grove to the Municipality of Galatsi for common use. Today, the grove is home to rich vegetation of pine, cypress, eucalyptus and carob trees, while its trails run through a mild terrain, ideal for hiking, running and cycling. Its open spaces often host families, hikers, yoga groups, and students who explore the park as part of environmental actions.
In the heart of the grove is the Veikou Open Air Theatre, which hosts concerts, festivals and theatrical performances every summer. The swimming pool, the football grounds, the tennis, basketball and beach volleyball courts, as well as the skate park attract athletes of all ages every day.
For children there are playgrounds, a small train and climbing areas, while for those who prefer quieter moments, the shady spots around the lake and the tree lines offer the ideal escape from the urban rhythm.
In recent years, the park has been involved in European urban sustainability projects reinforcing its role as an urban green model.
Start your walk from the entrance on Veikou Avenue and follow the paths leading to the Open Air Theater and the duck lake. If you want something more active, rent a bike or take part in one of the outdoor fitness classes often organised by the Municipality. In the small cafés of the park, you can enjoy some coffee or snacks overlooking the lush landscape.
