Forests: Nature’s Living Sanctuaries

Forest areas have expanded considerably since the 1990's in Greece. Some Greek forests have been included in the Natura 2000 network as areas with high biodiversity. There are also different forests that are protected by Greek law, which are characterized - as a category - as National Woodland Parks, National Parks, Aesthetic Forests, Nature Reserve Areas and many more. These names typically mean that the forests are home to a rich botanical, ecological, aesthetical or historical and cultural value, which are protected
by Greek legislation.
