Racing tradition meets stunning natural scenery
An exciting motorsport event awaits you in Kymi every year. The famous 52 bends that lead from the port (Paralia Kymis) up to the outskirts of the town attract motorsport enthusiasts to this seaside destination on Evia. Every May, around 100 drivers gather here to take part in the Kymi Hill Climb, a race included in the Panhellenic Hill Climb Championship.
Participants often describe it as one of the most enjoyable routes. It combines technical challenges with endless natural beauty, thanks to its lush vegetation and breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. The sharp, tight bends quite literally climb the mountainside and have inspired local legends. Some say the road designer, nearly two centuries ago, was a gambler who sacrificed practicality so the number of bends would match the number of cards in a deck. Others claim he was simply drunk. In reality, the road was laid out along an old footpath used by locals, as was the case with many roads across Greece.
Since 2002, the race has evolved significantly. The route is now fully paved with anti-slip asphalt, and designated viewing areas allow spectators, who flock to the event each year, to enjoy the thrilling spectacle.
Make sure to include it in your plans and experience one of the country’s most important motorsport events firsthand.
