A cinematic initiative for the environment
Agia Anna, Edipsos, and Limni take centre stage for five days each summer, transforming into hubs of “green” cinema. This initiative, launched by the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 2022 following the devastating 2021 North Evia wildfires, has evolved into a multifaceted project. By actively supporting the local community, it also spreads a powerful message about the importance of a more sustainable future. Despite its artistic character, it is fundamentally an environmental initiative, included in the “Fotodotes” programme of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, aimed at revitalising the region. Today, it has become a well-established institution.
The Evia Film Project programme focuses on sustainability and the connection between humans and nature. It features film and documentary screenings, concerts, open discussions, and educational activities—all with free admission for the public. Since the summer of 2025, it has also introduced the “Kafenio” sessions, where festival guests and artists engage with locals in open conversations about sustainability and the nature.
Film professionals from Greece and abroad, along with WWF Greece partners, take part in the project through seminars, workshops, activities, virtual reality (VR) screenings, and creative labs for children. In this innovative initiative, the art of cinema meets environmental awareness, producing meaningful work that is valuable both for the local community and for visitors alike.
