The First Digital Museum in Corfu
In the heart of Corfu, a pioneering cultural space has emerged, blending technology with local heritage: the V Museum Corfu. As the island’s first virtual reality digital museum, it showcases Corfu’s rich history and culture through interactive experiences and innovative applications.
A New Dimension of Culture
Hologram of Ioannis Capodistrias: The first Governor of Greece comes to life in front of visitors to narrate his course and vision.
3D Animation film: An immersive audiovisual journey that narrates the evolution of Corfu, from Poseidon, Odysseus and the heroes, to the Venetians, the British and the modern era.
Interactive “Botides” Game: Visitors of all ages can participate in a floor-based digital game inspired by the traditional Easter custom, breaking as many clay pots (“Botides”) as possible in one minute—a unique simulation experience.
Odysseus and the Journey to Ithaca
Among the top exhibits of the V Museum Corfu, the lifelike representation of Odysseus stands out. Odysseus is flanked by two Doric columns and a classical pediment featuring the figures of Athena and Poseidon – deities who determined the course of his journey with their wisdom and power, and with the trials they imposed on him.
Next to the sculpture, an interactive screen reveals the Odyssey map, where visitors can watch Odysseus' fascinating voyage from Troy to Ithaca, through stops full of myths, legends and symbolism.
The Musical Soul of Corfu
The museum dedicates a special space to the island’s musical heritage. The Philharmonic Orchestras of Corfu are presented through multimedia exhibits and audio recordings, highlighting their role in shaping the cultural identity of the island.
Fortifications, Cannons and Memories of War
Through interactive displays and augmented reality, visitors learn about the strategic importance of Corfu in the course of history, walking around the cannons and strong fortifications that protected it from invasions.
