Sitia Geopark

An impressive geotourism destination

Sitia Geopark, at the easternmost tip of Crete, is a place of rare beauty and geological interest. It is listed in the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network and covers more than 700 sq. km. From the mountainous Lasithi to the coasts of Vai and Zakros, it invites you to discover it by bike, crossing gorges, caves, dry stone constructions and olive groves.
The routes cross some of the most impressive spots of eastern Crete. From the historic Toplou Monastery and the archaeological site of Itanos to the palm forest of Vai and the Gorge of the Dead in Zakros, each route combining nature, history and culture. The most experienced cyclists reach Xerokampos, with its secluded beaches and turquoise waters. The milder routes near Sitia offer views of the sea and the wild landscape of the Lasithian north.
The Geopark has an organised network of marked trails and cycling routes, while the Information Center in Sitia provides instructions and information on the degree of difficulty of each route. You can also rent electric or conventional bikes in the city or in local accommodation establishments. Before you get started, be sure to know the difficulty of each route and adhere to basic safety instructions.
Discover Sitia Geopark and experience a unique landscape.
