Piraeus annual celebration of openness
In late spring and early summer, Piraeus puts on its holiday best and honours its deep relationship with the sea. Sea Days is a major cultural and maritime festival that highlights the character of the city as a port and a place of meetings, trade, history, and culture.
The institution, which started in 2015, has now been established as one of the most vibrant annual events in Attica, with many activities taking place in spaces from the Zea Marina and Pasalimani to the port of the PPA and the parks of Freattyda.
The focus is on events around the marine environment and maritime tradition: sailing and lifeguarding shows, guided tours on floating museums and historic ships, environmental actions, concerts, art events, gastronomy festivals, and educational programmes for children. The city of Piraeus is transformed into an open seascape, where sailors, creators, residents, and visitors meet.
Every year new themes are added, from ‘Blue Economy’ and ‘Green Shipping’ to the promotion of local entrepreneurship and the craft of shipbuilding.
Combine your walk with a visit to the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus or the Maritime Museum of Greece, which participate with special guided tours during the festival.
