The Night of Lanterns

A radiant celebration of generosity unfolding across the Volos skyline

Should you find yourself in Volos during the Christmas season, you will have the opportunity to witness the Night of Lanterns, one of the city's most iconic festive events, which fills the sky with light and provides unforgettable memories.
Annually, on the evening of Boxing Day, thousands gather on the beach before the illuminated Argo, a contemporary replica of the legendary vessel from the Argonautic expedition. With the motto of "One light, one wish", participants of all ages release thousands of glowing lanterns into the sky, sending personal messages of hope, love, and solidarity.
The Night of Lanterns is an institution that was launched in 2015. This event is charitable in nature, with attendees receiving lanterns in exchange for a small donation. A considerable crowd gathers, with locals and visitors participating enthusiastically.
The port's atmosphere cultivates a truly singular experience. Light, music, emotion, and a palpable sense of community combine to create a magical evening, indelibly etched in one's memory. This is precisely why it resonates across Greece, amplified through media and social networks!
The event champions charitable causes, and the public's involvement is truly heart-warming: from young children and families to groups of friends and the elderly, all participate in a wonderful act of solidarity that uplifts spirits.
It is a celebration that links tradition with the vibrancy of community, conveying a message of the power held within unity and light. Witness the magic first-hand!
