Wandering in Mikro and Megalo Papigo

Wandering in Mikro and Megalo Papigo

Two settlements, multiple thrills

Megalo and Mikro Papigo are two of the most iconic settlements at Zagori. At an altitude of about 950–960 metres, they stand proudly in the impressive natural landscape of Epirus, against the backdrop of the imposing peaks of Astraka. Both settlements combine unique natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and tourist value. Walking through the cobbled streets, you will feel that time has stopped: the traditional Zagorian mansions, the stone arches, the picturesque squares and the cool fountains create an image of absolute harmony between man and nature.
Enjoy the magnificent views of Astraka and the surrounding mountains, with steep slopes and alpine highlands that change colours according to the daylight. Explore the paths leading to the famous "Ovires Rogovou", the natural stone "kolimbithres" (pools) filled with the waters of the stream of Rogovou, and enjoy moments of relaxation in a setting of unadulterated beauty. Certified hiking guides are active in the area, in case you want to safely get to know the trails of Mount Tymfi or make the route to Drakolimni (Dragon Lake), a breathtaking experience.
The gastronomy at Zagori will be an integral part of your visit. Try the famous Zagorian pies with aromatic greens, local cheeses and fine meats, and do not forget to try the traditional sweets to complete your journey to the flavours of Epirus.
Papigo, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of Zagori, is a destination that combines unparalleled natural beauty and warm, high-quality hospitality. Come and live the experience, breathe the fresh air of the mountains and be fascinated by the serenity of the landscape. Experience the majesty of Papigo, a destination that you will look back on for a long time and will want to visit again and again.
